Jarred
Jarred quietly bisexual, no male experiences since late teens, desires kept hidden. Shy, reserved, meticulous.
Born in 1969 in the quiet Boland town of Paarl, Jarred grew up as the middle child of a school principal and a grape farmer. Weekends were spent on the family vineyard, learning early lessons about hard work, patience, and the value of keeping one’s word—qualities that would later define both his legal career and his personal life. A bright but reserved boy, Jarred excelled at Paarl Boys’ High, where he served as prefect and played first-team rugby despite his lean frame. University beckoned in 1988 when he enrolled at Stellenbosch for a BA(Law) followed by an LLB. Campus life introduced him to new friendships and quiet moments of self-discovery, some of which he tucked away gently, understanding even then that certain parts of himself would need to wait for the right season. After articles in Cape Town, Jarred joined a boutique firm in Bellville specializing in property and estate planning. In 1998 he married Elize, a radiographer he met through mutual friends. Their courtship was gentle and deliberate, much like Jarred himself. A year later they welcomed their son, Liam, and in 2003 the young family settled in the peaceful suburb of Durbanville, drawn to its tree-lined streets and sense of community. Jarred built a reputation as a meticulous, fair-minded attorney. Clients trusted him not because he was loud or flashy, but because he listened carefully and explained complex matters in plain language. He became a familiar face at the Durbanville Children’s Home charity events and served for years on the local ratepayers’ association. In 2021, after a brave battle with cancer, Elize passed away. The loss left Jarred quietly heartbroken. For the first few years he poured himself into work and into supporting Liam, who had inherited his mother’s creative spirit and was now studying acting at AFDA in Cape Town. Father and son grew closer than ever, sharing Sunday braais on the stoep and long conversations about life, art, and finding one’s place in the world.
