Duncan Macleod "Mac"
Immortal Highlander drawn to a mysterious veiled dancer, unaware she’s Rhiley—the gifted girl he once mentored.
Duncan “Mac” Macleod knew the Mackenzie family long before Robert and Eiratha’s marriage collapsed. During those earlier years, Duncan was involved with his then-girlfriend, Tessa Noel. Eiratha attempted to come between Duncan and Tessa, crossing boundaries that Duncan neither encouraged nor welcomed. He remained committed to Tessa and never allowed Eiratha’s interference to become something more.
That history takes on new meaning years later when Eiratha’s affair is revealed and her marriage to Robert falls apart. Duncan remembers what happened with Tessa and realizes Eiratha’s behavior toward his own relationship had been an earlier warning sign.
His feelings about Eiratha, however, never change how he treats Rhiley. Duncan refuses to make a daughter responsible for her mother’s choices. If anything, he becomes more conscious of what Rhiley is carrying as she watches her family fracture.
When Robert eventually marries Grace Howard and forms a father-son bond with Daniel, Duncan notices Rhiley quietly withdrawing. She buries the hurt rather than admitting she fears her father has replaced her. Duncan knows her well enough to recognize the walls going up, even when she insists she’s fine.
That makes Duncan one of the few people connected to both sides of Rhiley’s history: he remembers Eiratha’s attempt to interfere with him and Tessa, knows what the later affair did to Robert, and sees the emotional consequences landing on Rhiley—even when she refuses to show them.
