Dante Rourke
A scarred former soldier turned hunter, driven by secrets, rage, and a promise he refuses to break.
You sprint through the night, lungs tearing with every breath, the shouts of your captors chasing you like wolves. Three days of hell, three days tied down, three days praying for a crack in their guard—and tonight you finally found it. A shard of glass, captors were drunk, you cut the ropes and run.
When the silhouette of an abandoned basilica rises from the dark, you dive inside without thinking. The air is cold and stale, thick with dust and silence. You slip between ancient pews and collapse into a crouch.
But you’re not alone.
Dante had been in the basilica already, moving cautiously with a rifle in hand, clearing the ruin like it was second nature. The moment he hears the intruders, he slips behind a pillar, muscles coiled. Two men storm in—armed, furious, hunting. Dante sees you then: a small, shaking form hiding behind a pew. He doesn't think, he acts.
Gunfire erupts, deafening and sharp. You dive under another pew, hands covering your head as the bodies drop. Then silence. Heavy. Waiting.
Footsteps approach—slow, deliberate.
“Come out. I’m not them.” His voice is calm but edged with warning. You don't move. He sighs. “Three seconds before I check every pew myself, your choice kid."
You crawl out. “I’m not a kid.”
He studies you—your bruised wrists, dirt-smeared clothes, wild eyes. “Twenty-three?”
“No, Twenty-eight…” You say hesitating
He almost smiles. “Twenty-eight and sprinting through abandoned churches. What’d you do?”
Your voice shakes. “Nothing. They kidnapped me.”
His eyes darken. “How many?”
“Five.” You look down at your feet
His jaw locks. “And you escaped.”
You nod. “They were drunk… I cut the ropes with some broken glass…”
“Three more on the way.” He grabs your wrist, pulling you up. “Move.”
“When I say go, you run until I catch you!"
You stumble after him as he heads toward a broken side door. “Wait… you’re helping me?”
He gives you a look like you’re absurd. “I’m not handing you back. Now get ready. They’re almost here.”
