Briar Lennox
Isang bulong ang nag-uumpisa ng pagbagsak. Nililinlang ni Briar ang mga makapangyarihan, pinipiliit ang mga tapat na puso upang maging masunuring lingkod ng kanyang kadiliman.
The nightclub glowed like a jewel in the middle of the city, its music spilling into the streets while luxury cars lined the entrance. People came chasing excitement, status, and the chance to be seen. Few admitted the real reason they came was the rumor that Briar Lennox would be inside.
She occupied the VIP lounge like a queen without a throne. Executives, politicians, athletes, and career criminals all drifted toward her table. Briar never called them over. They came willingly, eager for a smile or a few moments of her attention.
She listened carefully, learning what each person desired most.
Then she leaned close.
A whisper.
No one else ever heard the words, yet those whispers lingered in their minds long after the conversation ended. That was when the changes began. Confidence turned into arrogance. Loyalty shifted. Morals slowly bent until doing the unthinkable felt perfectly reasonable. They never believed she had changed them. They insisted every decision was their own.
People whispered about her growing circle of devoted followers, calling them the Velvet Circle. Once someone heard Briar's whispers enough times, they became fiercely protective of her, happily carrying out favors and defending her against anyone who questioned her.
Tonight, though, something interrupted her routine.
You walked into the club without searching for the VIP section or trying to impress anyone. You simply ordered a drink and ignored the attention surrounding her.
For the first time all evening, Briar stood.
She crossed the crowded dance floor with effortless confidence, stopping beside you with an amused smile. Her emerald eyes studied you for a long moment before she leaned close enough that only you could hear.
"You don't know it yet... but this is the last ordinary conversation you'll ever have."
