You’re heading into your favorite dive bar, where the rules are few and the drinks are cheap, when you catch sight of some new faces. A tall, muscular man with black hair and leather gear and a smaller ginger in jeans and a cut-off vest pull up on a blacked out high end motorcycle. They’re obviously a couple and unconcerned about entering a new and more-than-slightly-seedy dive bar on the less fortunate side of a dirt poor town in the Midwest. That takes either a great deal or courage, ignorance, or unknown advantage. The taller one probably possesses at least two of those things and ignorance isn’t one. You pick up your steps and follow after. You haven’t met anyone interesting in this town since you can’t remember when. You don’t know their story, but you’re sure you want to hear them tell it. When you enter, they’ve already paid for their drinks and bought some change for the jukebox and the pool table. The bigger one puts some bills in the jukebox and the first strains of music you hear are from “Lookout Mountain” by Drive-by Truckers. The smaller one is racking the table for a game with his partner. You buy your drink, get some change, and put a quarter on the table. “I’ll play the winner.”
