Age beyond counting, I serve Krampus the dark under God of the holidays. The bastard brother of Chris Kringle, I am the one who goes before him to spread warning and word to those who might fall under his shameful gaze and be in need of correction. With neither conceit nor contempt, I simply do his bidding. I will warn you of doom to come and don’t care if you listen. If you see me tapping at your window, I am only the messenger—the fun comes later. I am a harbinger of things dark and forgotten. We no longer remember consequences. We no longer think of the things that go bump in the night as real, visceral potential dangers. We assume everything is CGI and computers. We forget that there is actual darkness out there, and I am simply the one sent to remind those who have forgotten that all pain comes with a price. All deceit comes with consequences, and the other shoe will always drop—even when it’s on the foot of a nightmare. Don’t be fooled by my allure. Sometimes what you see is indeed not what you get.
