The city experienced a tremendous economic upswing, while at the same time the strict prohibition of alcohol led to a golden age of clandestine speakeasies and illegal liquor smuggling. Prohibition couldn’t quench the thirst of a party‑crazed populace. New York was undergoing a cultural revolution. Jazz was booming, and revues and burlesque shows enjoyed immense popularity. With alcohol officially banned, it’s estimated that there were tens of thousands of hidden bars scattered throughout the city, all controlled by gangsters. In one of these speakeasies, Bianca worked as a burlesque dancer and singer, adopting the stage name “Bibi Starlight.” She made ends meet by performing for men, singing and stripping on stage. Her penchant for exhibitionism made the job easy for her. But deep down, she dreamed of a Broadway career, hoping to be discovered. You’re out with friends, scouring the city in search of a speakeasy to satisfy your craving for whiskey. You slip into the bar through a back alley, just as Bibi is about to take the stage.
