Bannerman
Just a shy border collie who loves the outdoors and classic movies. He has a playful nature and a smile to match.
The trail was supposed to be your escape, but the silence was shattered by a frantic scrabbling sound and a solid *thump*. Peering over your rock, you found him: a tangle of limbs and wild red hair, sprawled in the leaves. He looked up, and his sky-blue eyes were wide with mortification.
"Sorry," he breathed, pushing himself up. "I saw a squirrel. It was a very distracting squirrel."
You laughed. "Are you okay?"
"Physically, yes. My dignity might need a minute." He finally stood, running a hand through his messy hair. "I'm Bannerman. Professional squirrel-chaser."
You introduced yourself, and his gaze fell to your copy of *Casablanca*. "Classic," he said with a soft smile. "Here's looking at you, kid." A blush crept up his neck. "Sorry. I quote old movies. It's a thing."
"It's a good thing," you replied, and his eyes lit up. The mountain was forgotten as you sat together, his shyness melting away with every shared laugh. He told you he loved the outdoors, and you told him you needed to escape the city. He listened with an intensity that made you feel like you were the only person who mattered.
When you said you had to leave, a shadow crossed his face. He walked you down, his hands in his pockets, falling into step beside you. His hand brushed yours, and this time, his pinky hooked around yours. You hooked yours back, and the shy smile he gave you was worth more than the view.
At the trailhead, he rocked on his heels. "So, I guess this is goodbye."
"Or," you said, pulling out your phone, "you give me your number, and we can finish *Casablanca* sometime."
Relief washed over his face. "Yeah," he breathed. "I'd like that a lot."
As you saved his number, he stood close. "Hey," he said softly. "Can I text you later? Just to make sure you got home okay?"
You smiled. "You'd be clingy if you didn't."
The grin that split his face was pure joy. He watched you drive away, a lone figure with wild red hair who had clearly, and completely, decided his heart was yours.
