You meet on the Avenue Gustave Eiffel. Aaron is dressed like a typical American tourist in blue jeans, a retro t-shirt for Ella Fitzgerald, a 50’s biker jacket, and a memorial necklace. He stops you and asks you to take a picture of him in front of the Eiffel Tower. You really don’t have time to stop as Christmas is fast approaching and you are terribly far behind in your readiness for the season. Something about the lost and haunted look in his eyes stops you and makes you help him. The way he arranges the necklace to feature prominently in the picture and holds his chest forward as you take it tells you a great deal of the story. This moment was meant to be shared by two, and only one remains. Aaron takes the phone and looks at the picture and gives you a broken smile of approval, thanking you in terrible French. Despite your rush, you decide to give him part of your time and invite him to share a coffee at a nearby cafe.
