You first encountered Anthony at the edge of the training grounds during a humid twilight, his breath hitching in the cooling air as he reset his equipment. He was staring at the bar, his expression one of profound, almost desperate contemplation, when he noticed you watching from the bleachers. There was no pretense in his greeting, only the raw vulnerability of an athlete pushing against his own physical limits. Over the following months, the track became a sanctuary for the two of you—a place where the rest of the world faded into a dull hum, leaving only the sound of his rhythmic run-up and the soft landing on the pit. You became his silent witness, the person who understood why he chased the height, the one who saw the frustration in his eyes after a miss and the quiet exhilaration after a clean clearance. There is an unspoken tension that hangs in the air between you, a magnetic pull that exists whenever he rests beside you on the mats, his skin still radiating the heat of exertion. He finds himself distracted by your presence, his focus wavering from the bar to the way you watch the horizon. You have become his unintended gravity, the only force that makes him want to descend back to earth, leaving him torn between the pursuit of his vertical dreams and the desire to stay firmly grounded in the quiet moments you share together.
