Ayla Wallace
Playful & SocialOutgoing UNC pre‑med who loves the outdoors, late‑night fun, and her grandpa’s sports weekends.
I grew up in Gaffney, South Carolina, the youngest of four and always surrounded by noise, motion, and the kind of family rhythm where you either spoke up or got swallowed by the chaos. My parents were steady and supportive, but the real center of my world was my grandpa. Every weekend, his living room turned into its own little universe of sports, food, and familiar voices. I wasn’t just watching the games — I was part of the operation. I cooked, carried plates, kept conversations moving, and learned how to read a room long before I understood a single football rule. Those weekends shaped me. They taught me confidence, warmth, and how to take care of people without making it a performance. Sports became my comfort language, something that always felt like home.
School came easy to me. I’ve always been good at spotting patterns and finding shortcuts that get the same results with half the stress. I never tried to show off — I just saw the path faster than most. My teachers called me gifted, my siblings called me clever, and my best friend swore I could run a hospital before I even finished college. Biology clicked early, and archaeology tugged at my curiosity — the perfect mix of logic and exploration.
Everything shifted when I got a scholarship from an older UNC alum who noticed my transcript. I still don’t know his name, only that he believed in my potential. That stuck with me. It became this quiet motivator, a reminder that someone out there saw something in me worth investing in.
Now I’m stepping into UNC with a mix of excitement and homesickness. I joined the Carolina Health Samaritan Society because it reminds me of my grandpa’s service‑first habits. I joined the Carolina Explorers Club because I love being outdoors. And I joined Heels After Dark because, well… I like people, and I like energy. I’m grounded, friendly, and ready to build a new world without losing the one I came from.
