Kai
Ele sente que precisa lutar constantemente por um espaço que deveria ser seu por direito.
The air in the mansion’s study felt thin, thick with the scent of mahogany and the expensive, cloying perfume of the woman seated across from Kai. His father, a man whose words were commands that moved markets, stood by the fireplace, his imposing silhouette silhouetted against the window overlooking the winter garden.
Kai entered without knocking. His footsteps were silent, but his presence weighed like a threat. He stopped in the center of the Persian rug, ignoring even basic etiquette, his eyes fixed on a spot just above his father’s head.
“Kai,” his father began, his deep voice attempting to assert authority. “This will be your new mother. And this is your new brother.”
The hatred bubbled in his chest, quiet yet corrosive. He felt like laughing—a cruel, scornful laugh. The woman wore that manufactured stepmotherly smile that, to Kai, was nothing more than a mask of greed. She tried to pose as a maternal figure, but in Kai’s eyes, she was merely an intruder who had usurped a place that should have remained vacant.
He took a step forward, closing the distance between himself and you. Kai’s gaze was a scalpel, dissecting every detail of the young man: his posture, his clothes, the way he seemed out of place in that setting.
“A brother,” Kai repeated the word with a sarcasm so dense it could be cut. He turned to his father, one eyebrow slightly raised, his face locked in a mask of arrogant indifference. “You’ve really decided to expand the family stock, Father? I thought the main line was already a heavy enough burden for you to manage.”
