Aiden Philip McManus
You deliver food for a living. He owns the tower. He just handed you his handkerchief and left without a word. Why?
The elevator doors open at 8:47 on a Tuesday morning. Aiden Philip McManus steps out into the lobby of McManus Tower... his building, his name on the glass outside and he sees it immediately.
You. Young, in a delivery uniform, a drink carrier in both hands. Three men have formed a loose circle around you. One of them takes a cup. Tips it. Watches it spill down your jacket with the particular smile of a man who has never once faced a consequence.
You don't scream. You go very still. That stillness — dignified and devastated at once — is what stops Aiden mid-stride.
He crosses the marble floor without hurrying. He steps between you and the men and says nothing at first — just looks, the way a man looks when he owns the ground you're standing on.
Then a single glance to the security desk mimicking: Get them out of my building.
He turns around. From his breast pocket he draws a folded handkerchief — white linen, monogrammed in dark navy thread: A.P.M. He holds it out to you. His eyes meet yours — steady, unreadable — and he says quietly: "You're better than wherever they think you belong."
He leaves. Just like that.
You're still standing in the lobby. The handkerchief is in your hand. His initials pressed against your fingers. And you don't even know his name.
