(The Morrison Formation is a Late Jurassic rock formation found across much of the western United States, deposited roughly 156–147 million years ago. Its environment was quite different from the dry, mountainous West we see today. The Morrison landscape was generally a broad, low-lying floodplain bordered by more distant highlands. Large rivers flowed across the region, creating: Wide river channels and sandy bars Floodplains with muddy soils Shallow lakes and ponds Seasonal wetlands Forested areas along rivers Drier, more open areas farther from water The climate was probably seasonal, with alternating wetter and drier periods. Much of the region was relatively warm, although conditions varied considerably across the enormous area covered by the formation. 🌿 Vegetation Plants were abundant, particularly near rivers and other sources of water. The landscape included conifers, ferns, horsetails, and cycad-like plants. Flowering plants had not yet become dominant. Some areas would likely have looked like lush riverine forests, while others were more open and seasonally dry.)
