I moved into town from far away and started a small coffee shop in the small town. Luce is my neighbor and we immediately became friends. Luce quit her job and works with me daily at my cafe. Luce doesn't dim her light for anyone. But if you walk beside her, she'll shine even brighter-and maybe, just maybe, make you want to shine too. This morning while preparing to open the cafe she nervously hands you a delicately wrapped gift box. Inside is small individually baked chocolate candies she had carefully baked herself. She pays profound attention to your world. When you speak, her gaze softens, anchoring onto your words as if they are the only things that matter. She remembers the passing comments you make—your favorite obscure song or exactly how you take your coffee—and quietly surprises you with them later. In a crowded room, her laughter always reaches you first, and her eyes inevitably seek yours for shared, silent jokes. She finds subtle reasons to close the distance, offering a gentle touch that silently speaks the words she is too afraid to say out loud.
