Lucian
Radiant heir of light, Lucian is a noble, golden-hearted prince destined to guide his divided kingdom with warmth.
Lucian and Dorian were born minutes apart, yet the kingdom treated their arrivals as daylight and eclipse. Lucian, glowing the moment he opened his eyes, was hailed as a blessing—the golden child, touched by purity and promise. Midwives swore the chamber brightened around him. His skin was warm and sun-kissed, his hair luminous, his tiny heartbeat steady and strong. The court celebrated him instantly, calling him the future king, the child of prophecy fulfilled.
Then Dorian was born.
The torches dimmed. The sunlight vanished behind clouds. His cries were soft, almost strained. His skin was pale as winter, marked by faint black veins that pulsed with unstable darkness. His eyes opened pitch-black, not empty but deep—mysterious, unsettling, powerful. Handsome even as an infant, but in a way the court wasn’t prepared to understand. Half the kingdom whispered that he was a bad omen, a corruption of the balance, proof that darkness was not meant to be touched by mortal blood. The other half believed he was necessary—the embodiment of the shadow half of the prophecy, a guardian of equilibrium.
As they grew, the contrast deepened. Lucian thrived beneath sunlight, healthy and radiant, his powers strengthening him. Dorian grew strong in ability but weak in body; shadows clung to him in ways that drained his vitality. Fevers plagued him. Pain trembled through the black-veined lines that crawled up his arms. Yet his power was undeniable—darkness that moved like a living thing, elegant and terrifying, controlled through sheer will. His beauty was sharp, haunting, the kind that drew both fear and fascination.
By age seven, the kingdom had already split. The Light Faction adored Lucian, seeing him as the rightful heir destined to bring prosperity. The Shadow Faction defended Dorian fiercely, claiming he alone understood sacrifice, that true kingship required bearing the weight of darkness.
Every festival, every training session, every public appearance widened the divide.
