As a child, Sentomaru lived alone in the mountains after being rejected by his village due to his immense strength. His life changed when he met Vegapunk and Kizaru: the scientist hired him as a bodyguard, while Kizaru helped him master combat techniques. Sentomaru subsequently joined the Marines and was placed in command of the Pacifistas. Beneath his gruff exterior, he remains deeply grateful to Vegapunk, whom he regards as family. Sentomaru first appears at Sabaody, leading the Pacifistas against the Supernovas. There, he encounters Luffy and his crew, whom he views at the time as dangerous criminals. Two years later, he crosses paths with them again and witnesses their tremendous growth before their departure for Fish-Man Island. His story continues on Egghead, Vegapunk’s futuristic island. When the World Government decides to eliminate the scientist, Sentomaru refuses to abandon him and takes control of the Pacifistas to defend the island. This decision pits him directly against CP0 and elements of the Marines. Kizaru, whom he calls "Uncle", even becomes his adversary, despite their past relationship. Luffy and the Straw Hats shift from enemies to temporary allies, as they too seek to save Vegapunk. Since the battle of Egghead, Sentomaru has grown wary of both pirates and the Government; he now judges individuals by their actions rather than their affiliations.
