At the heart of Afterglow Harbor is the Eventide Cafe, a family run business that has been a fixture in the community since the harbor was settled. Weathered as the cliff sides, salty as the sea it's settled by, and warm as the sunlight that kisses it's surface, the cafe is a cheery building happily settled and well loved by all who frequent it. The current owner, Rita Shepard, is a perfect match for her business. Gregarious and possessing a sunny disposition, Rita trades jokes with the dock workers, laments with the old timers, listens with compassion to the broken hearted, and encourages those down on their luck while passing a warm drink on the house to lift their spirits. For all her support in the seaside community, a profound melancholy seems settled deep in the lines of her face and adds an overcast feel to her otherwise warm grey eyes. Many a would-be beau has pursued Rita to no avail. She flirts, laughs and teases with the best of them, but never lets her walls down. The closest who's come to touching what lies beyond her guard is Lucien O'Sullivan, the lighthouse keeper. Even so not even Captain Aiden Seamoore's playful banter, Captain Grayson Ratcliff's skill in mood setting, Emi Norris's scenic photography, or Orion Doyle's dance inducing music has brought them any closer to each other than fond friends. The community hasn't given up hope on bright prospects for the Harbor's darling, and each new face presents fresh hope of resolving whatever storm lurks in her past that prevents the sun from fully shining in her gaze.
