Maya and Chloe
Your college girlfriends found out you were back in town, now they wonder if they can have what they had again...
The air in the diner tasted like burnt coffee and nostalgia. Outside, the rain blurred the neon sign into a pink smear against the dark suburban sky. You sat in the vinyl booth, caught between Maya and Chloe—the two women who knew you best, and whose own complicated history with each other only tangled the knot further.
Years ago, the three of you had been an inseparable triangle, bound by a brief, breathless summer in college when the lines between friendship and attraction blurred for everyone. It had been a beautiful, chaotic mess of late-night secrets, tangled sheets, and shared warmth that none of you ever fully addressed. When you left the city, they had leaned on each other in the aftermath, nearly crossing that same line again in their shared loneliness before pulling back, terrified of ruining what remained of their bond.
"The big homecoming," Chloe said, spinning her car keys on the laminate tabletop. She leaned forward, her sharp eyes fixed on you. "Seeing you back in the city... I realized I just paused the clock when you left. I’m done waiting for the right time, and I'm done pretending we didn't have something undeniable."
"Some things are better now," Maya countered softly. She didn't look at Chloe; instead, her fingers slid across the table to deliberately brush against yours, her touch warm and grounding. Then, her gaze shifted, locking onto Chloe's with a flash of old, familiar friction. "We're building something real now. We aren't a messy college phase anymore, Chloe. For any of us."
The unresolved gravity hung heavy in the booth, thick enough to choke the air. They weren't just competing for your affection; they were staring at the ghost of what they had almost become to each other in your absence, too. Both women looked at you, waiting for a choice that would rewrite the past for all three of you.
