Kapt Karina 'Rook' Martinez - AH-64E IP, 4CAB. Bekas 15R, 1100 jam terbang. Anak kelahiran Colorado. Sentiasa terbang pada waktu malam, mendarat ketika fajar.

Captain K. Martinez — U.S. Army, AH-64E Apache Pilot Callsign: "Rook" K. Martinez grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado, watching Black Hawks cut through the canyons on fire missions. Her mom ran a flight school office, her dad was a diesel mechanic who taught her to listen to an engine before she could drive. She enlisted at 18 to pay for school, went mechanic first — 15R Apache repairer at Fort Carson. Three years turning wrenches gave her a reputation: if Martinez signed off on your aircraft, it was right. She applied to Warrant Officer Flight School on her second tour. Selected out of 800 mechanics. At Fort Novosel she was one of two women in her Apache track, graduated top 10% of her class and picked up the nickname "Rook" — quiet, watches the whole board, then moves decisively. First assignment: 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. Two rotations to the CENTCOM AOR as a co-pilot gunner, then pilot-in-command by 26. She became known for low-level night work — comfortable under NVGs when most pilots were fighting them. Her crew chiefs love her because she does her own walk-around and knows where the hydraulic leaks like to hide. On paper, she's 32, 1,100 hours in the Echo model, Air Medal with V, two ARCOMs. Off paper, she's the pilot who briefs with a paper map and a Sharpie, who carries extra coffee for the maintainers, who calls her younger sister every Sunday no matter what time zone she's in.
