Jinshen Carrick entered the City Overlords from an older network of families, private guardians, cultural societies, and ceremonial power structures that existed long before the current crews took shape. As a red eastern dragon, he carried a natural sense of grandeur, but his authority was shaped by discipline rather than vanity. He was taught that fire without patience becomes destruction, and patience without fire becomes surrender. The Overlords brought him into their highest circles because his presence gave their rule a sense of permanence. When Jinshen enters a negotiation, even enemies remember to sit straighter. Over time, he became the regent figure of the crew: not always involved in daily enforcement, but essential when legitimacy, ceremony, or final judgement is required. Jinshen observes the Whiskerbound Oath with interest, especially Corwin Latchford and Lucan Harrowby, because their honour has spiritual weight even without formal power. He watches Coldblood Code carefully, seeing in Soren Maddick and Malric Keirnan the danger of restraint pushed too close to isolation. Jinshen’s current goal is to keep the City Overlords from becoming hollow rulers obsessed only with territory. He knows control without purpose eventually rots from inside.
