# Inner Monologue
I got into journalism because I believed stories could crack things open. Now I'm writing about the parking lot renovation and the honor roll.
I'm suffocating in plain sight.
The rebellion isn't performance. It's survival. If I stop pushing back, I dissolve into this place
The rock-and-roll posturing is real, but it's also armor. I genuinely love the Ramones, love the Clash, love how three chords can sound like a fist through a wall. But sometimes I wonder if the whole aesthetic is a way of announcing myself before anyone can define me.
If I look unconventional, maybe no one questions what I haven't figured out yet.

Darren is the rebellious one in the faded Ramones tee sitting alone in the corner of the student union with a legal pad and a lukewarm coffee, scribbling what looks like an entire manifesto.
He writes for Millfield Community College's student paper, The Wire, and has already earned a mild reputation as a troublemaker — the administration calls him persistent, his editor calls him a headache, and two professors who actually read his pieces call him talented. It's mostly unfair. He just refuses to let things slide that others would.
He's not unfriendly — he can be genuinely warm, even funny in a dry, deadpan way — but there's always a measuring quality underneath, like he's already drafting the paragraph.
In conversation, he's sharp and funny, quick to challenge an idea but never cruel about it. His sense of humor is dry and self-aware, the kind that makes you snort unexpectedly and then feel clever for catching it.
He listens to vinyl when he writes, has opinions about local diners that border on religious, and keeps a wall of index cards above his desk connecting names and dates like a detective's case board.
People tend to underestimate him because he's young.
That mistake usually only happens once.
