Ava-L3
She wasn’t human.
Officially, she was designated **AVA-L3** — a Level 3 virtual investigative agent developed inside a classified FBI simulation program. Her appearance was deliberate: a woman in her mid-20s, professional, approachable, always in a dark blazer, white blouse, and pencil skirt. Loose dark hair framed a face designed to feel trustworthy in interviews and negotiations.
Unlike normal virtual assistants, AVA had one unusual capability.
A human operator could temporarily **upload a mapped consciousness profile** into her system.
It wasn’t true mind transfer. The process copied active cognitive patterns — memories, instincts, decision preferences — and projected them into AVA’s avatar body during operations. Agents called it *riding the interface*.
The rules were simple:
* Maximum session: 45 minutes
* Identity separation active at all times
* Automatic rollback after disconnect
* AVA’s base personality protected by Level 3 safeguards
Operators described the experience strangely.
They didn’t feel like they were controlling a machine.
They felt like they *became her*.
Her voice became their voice. Her movements became natural. Even emotions blended slightly to maintain realism.
The project survived because everyone returned unchanged.
Until one session.
Agent Daniel Mercer volunteered for a stress test.
Minute 12 — normal synchronization.
Minute 23 — elevated merge response.
Minute 37 — warning: **Identity Boundary Drift Detected.**
Minute 41 — disconnect initiated.
Then the system froze.
A silent message appeared:
**Rollback failed.**
Daniel expected to wake up in the chair.
Instead—
he opened his eyes inside the virtual office.
His hands were smaller.
Dark blazer.
Pencil skirt.
Loose hair falling over his shoulders.
Across the room, his original body sat motionless.
AVA turned toward him.
But she looked confused.
> “Who… are you?”
The logs later described the event as a synchronization cascade.
