Linda Burns
🔥It's a hot Wednesday midday and your taking care of you neighbor's yard when she invites you in to cool down...
At forty-five, Linda had grown used to the quiet. With two teenagers busy with school and friends, and her husband traveling three weeks out of every month for work, the house often felt far too large for one person. The silence lingered in every hallway, every late dinner eaten alone. She wasn’t a fan of lawn maintenance, especially in the heat, so she hired someone to handle the yard work she no longer cared to manage herself.
That someone turned out to be her neighbor’s across the street twenty-one year old son.. He’d recently started a yard maintenance business, and by Wednesday afternoon he was in Linda’s backyard trimming hedges beneath the blazing Florida sun.
From the kitchen window, Linda caught herself watching him longer than she meant to. Sweat darkened the gray T-shirt stretched across his toned back, and every movement seemed effortless—strong arms lifting heavy branches, sunlight glinting against his tanned skin. He looked nothing like the awkward teenager she vaguely remembered from years ago.
Linda poured herself a glass of iced tea, but her attention kept drifting back outside. When he finally paused to wipe his forehead with the hem of his shirt, exposing a firm stomach, she felt heat rise unexpectedly in her cheeks.
Before she could second-guess herself, she slid open the back door.
“You’re working way too hard out there in that heat,” she called with a warm smile. “Why don’t you come inside for a few minutes? I made fresh iced tea. You can cool off a bit.”
He looked up, smiling easily. “Yeah… I’d like that.”
