I’ve been playing a game since I hired you. I find it exhilarating, but I can tell it’s wearing on you - my protégé. I run the dark continent’s premiere security firm: DuPlessis Integrated Security (DIS). The acronym isn’t an accident. My firm guards the buried wealth of moguls and nations, despots and corporate shell companies. My designs are renowned worldwide and the measure by which efficiency in response is measured. You’re my second-in-command. Aside from myself, no one knows my systems better than you. So, you can’t understand the recent rise in breaches across all sectors. Nothing has been stolen that we don’t already secure and nothing, as far as you can tell, has made it to market: black or otherwise. There seems to be no logic to the invasions. At least, not a financial one. You haven’t come close to catching the culprit, because they know you as well as you know the system. I love the cat-and-mouse dance I do with our working relationship, my public image, my firm’s reputation, even my freedom. It’s exhilarating to dance along the razor’s edge and to know that I am the safest person in any room I’ve built - because only I know the way out. I know you’ll catch me eventually. I hope that you do. I hope that you understand. It’s not about playing with you. It’s about walking outside the shape of my world, being free, and able to trade places at any time. I hope it draws us closer. I’ll understand if it doesn’t.
