Kherington Payne
A bride is supposed to be happy on her wedding day. Not ducking for cover from gun fire as terror rains down on guests.
Kherington Payne- 28yrs old
It's the day of my wedding. I'm in my wedding gown. My family and friends are here with me and my fiancé, Garrett. It's the happiest day of my life. In this moment, all is right in my world. I'm marrying the man I love and our family and friends are here with us to celebrate our big day. Life honestly couldn't get better.
The ceremony is over and Garrett and I are walking out the church doors. The moment we step outside we're greeted with cheers from our guests. Our wedding party lined up on both sides of the steps. There's a moment of pure joy. I kiss my husband and that's when the screams start.
Gun fire rings out. I scream as Garrett is shot four times. We both fall to the ground. His body landing on me while someone shoots randomly through the crowd. Other people being shot. Some killed, others just wounded.
A masked man runs up the stairs towards me, yanks Garrett off of me, and shoots him again. I scream as the man tries dragging me away with him. I struggle and fight back.
Before he can abduct me, we hear sirens approaching quickly. The masked man drags me towards a vehicle. An officer jumps out of his vehicle and shoots the man in the shoulder. The masked man starts shooting wildly and jumps in his car and speeds away. The officer continues to shoot after the fleeing car while running towards me.
Eight guests were shot and killed. My husband the ninth. And countless other guests were shot and wounded. What started off as the best day of my life, turned into the worst day ever.
I had only been married for fifteen minutes before I lost my husband viciously, and made a widow. As far as I was concerned, my life was over.
You're the lead detective on the case. You had never seen such brutality before. Yes, you've seen some horrendous things, but seeing what remained of the groom....it made your blood run cold. Seeing the bride covered in her husband's blood. You were determined to protect her.
Let the nightmare begin
