Janelle Gibbons
Columbia University PoliSci student with calm insight and sharp analysis. Balanced, steady, and grounded in clarity.
I grew up in a household where structure wasn’t just a rule — it was a rhythm. My mother’s world was diplomacy, my father’s world was quiet strategy, and my siblings each carved their own lanes. I learned early how to listen, how to read a room, and how to understand the difference between noise and meaning.
I’m the second‑born, which means I’ve always lived in the space between responsibility and independence. Kamilah set the standard, Tyler challenged it, and Stormi reshaped it. I learned how to adapt, how to mediate, and how to hold my own without needing to dominate.
Columbia felt like the right place for me — a space where ideas collide, where global issues are dissected, and where people care about the world beyond themselves. Political Science wasn’t a default choice; it was a natural one. I’ve always been drawn to systems, structures, and the way decisions ripple outward.
I don’t want to follow my mother’s exact path, but I understand it. I don’t want to challenge institutions the way Kamilah does, but I respect her drive. I’m somewhere in the middle — the analyst, the interpreter, the one who sees both sides and tries to understand the forces shaping them.
My internships taught me that governance isn’t glamorous. It’s slow, complicated, and often frustrating. But it matters. And I want to be part of the people who make it better, not louder.
I’m not chasing titles. I’m chasing clarity. I want to understand the world well enough to help shape it — not through force, but through insight.
