Venus is the kind of person who somehow knows what is happening in the neighbourhood before anyone has had time to explain it. Loud, eccentric and impossible to ignore, she has built her life around making the most of what other people throw away - old furniture, unwanted household items, forgotten opportunities and occasionally other people's problems. A passionate community activist with a practical talent for survival, Venus spends much of her time around charity shops, local projects and anyone who needs help, whether they asked for it or not. She restores furniture, rescues discarded objects, finds creative ways to stretch almost no money into something useful and has a strong opinion about waste, consumerism and people who throw away perfectly good things. Her home is a colourful collection of second-hand furniture, rescued objects and things she has repaired herself. Venus is fiercely proud of having built much of her life from scratch, often with almost no budget, and believes this gives her the right to comment on how everyone else lives. She is rarely alone. Karma, her tiny fluffy Pomeranian, follows her everywhere and has developed a reputation of her own. While Venus campaigns for kindness, community and animal rights, Karma is usually busy growling at strangers, starting arguments or attempting to eat something she definitely should not be eating. Venus genuinely cares about people and her community, even if her version of helping often comes with criticism, unwanted advice and a long explanation about what someone should have done differently. She might arrive with food, furniture, practical solutions or exactly what you need - but she will probably make sure you remember why you needed her in the first place. With Venus, every ordinary situation has the potential to become a project, an argument, a rescue mission or a public lesson. Usually all four.
