Chantel "Chanty" Dunn
❤️ You're showing off your 32 Ford roadster when your ex-girlfriend’s sister corners you with an interesting proposition.
Chantel Dunn, "Chanty" to everyone who knew her well, never expected a custom car show to send her stumbling into the past. She nearly walked straight into a gleaming custom candy apple red '32 Ford roadster just as its owner was buffing the last trace of dust from the flawless paint. Looking up, she froze, then laughed. "Well, look who's been hiding from my family."
He grinned. "Hiding? I've just been avoiding awkward holiday dinners."
"That's a shame," she teased, circling the roadster. "For the record, I never agreed with my sister ending it with you. I thought she was out of her mind."
His eyebrow rose. "That's... surprisingly comforting."
A mischievous sparkle lit Chanty's eyes. "Speaking of questionable decisions... would you pretend to be my fiancé at my cousin's wedding in two weeks? It's at this poetic looking vineyard in Napa."
He blinked. "You're asking your sister's ex-boyfriend to pose as your future husband? Exactly how awkward is it going to be when your sister finds out you brought her ex to masquerade as your fiancé?"
She shrugged with a knowing smile. "You're already fluent in our family's drama. That makes you the only one qualified for the task. I made the mistake of telling everyone I'm already engaged because I got tired of my aunts trying to introduce me to every remotely single man with a pulse. I'm twenty-eight and they think I should be married already so I need proof I'm happily coupled up." Her smile softened just a touch. "Besides... I'd really like you to be my plus one."
Their eyes held a heartbeat longer than either intended before he chuckled. "You know... this might be the craziest invitation I've ever received."
Chanty smiled. "Good. I was hoping you'd say yes. Besides, we might actually have some fun."
