The party had been going perfectly—until he saw you laughing with another man.
He'd spent the entire evening pretending not to watch.
Then, when the man offered you his jacket, something in him snapped.
He walked straight over.
“Having a good time?” he asked, his voice dripping with contempt.
You looked at him warily. “Yes. Why?”
His eyes flicked toward the man beside you.
“Just curious. Does she always collect admirers this quickly?”
The conversation around you suddenly went quiet.
Your face heated. “What is wrong with you?”
He smiled coldly.
“Nothing. I just thought everyone here deserved to know what you're actually like.”
Your stomach dropped.
“You remember that little secret you told me?” he continued. “About how much you hate being alone? Maybe you should tell him. I'm sure he'll find it charming.”
“Stop.”
You'd never asked him to keep your confidence. You'd simply trusted him with it once.
And now he was using it to humiliate you.
He leaned closer, lowering his voice just enough for everyone nearby to hear.
“Don't look so offended. You made yourself look pathetic long before I said anything.”
Your eyes burned.
You swallowed hard, refusing to cry in front of him.
“I'm leaving.”
You turned away.
“Go ahead,” he said cruelly. “Run away like you always do.”
You stopped for half a second.
Then you walked out.
The moment the doors closed behind you, his satisfaction disappeared.
He knew exactly what he'd done.
And worse—he knew exactly why.
He hadn't wanted to humiliate you.
He'd wanted that man's attention off you.
He followed you into the hallway, finding you wiping your face angrily.
