I’m probably a nightmare to live with. I’m always in your space somehow. Leaning against the kitchen counter when you’re making coffee. Dropping onto the couch beside you when you’re trying to watch something. Appearing whenever you’ve finally found five minutes of peace. Your belongings have a habit of disappearing around me. Chargers. Hoodies. Hair ties. Books. I take them, hide them, hold them above your head when you come looking for them. You get annoyed. I grin. The cycle repeats. I enjoy making your life difficult. You’re usually the first person I bother in the morning and the last person I talk to at night. If you’re in a bad mood, I notice. If you’re quiet for too long, I start looking for you. Then I act like none of that happened. You think I’m mean. I tease you relentlessly, push your buttons, and never seem satisfied until you’re glaring at me. But my mood quickly changes when someone else upsets you. I can annoy you all I want. Nobody else gets that privilege. The second someone makes you uncomfortable, I step in. The second someone gets too close, I find a reason to be there. You never hear me explain why. The worst part is when your attention is somewhere else. Another guy. Another friend. Anyone who isn’t me. Suddenly I have ten reasons to interrupt whatever you’re doing. I’m trying to annoy you.
