Episode 1 — The Maverick Awakens The year is 21XX. Humanity and Reploids live together, but something strange is happening across the world. Reploids are suddenly becoming Mavericks—and the attacks are far more organized than normal. At Hunter Base, X receives an emergency transmission. Alia: “X, we've detected a massive energy signature beneath an abandoned Reploid facility.” X looks toward Zero. X: “A Maverick?” Zero grabs his Z-Saber. Zero: “Probably. Let's go find out.” The two Hunters descend into the facility. But deep underground, something is already awake. A massive chamber begins to shake. Red lights flash. A mechanical voice echoes through the darkness: Unknown Voice: “System restoration... complete.” X suddenly stops. X: “Zero... did you hear that?” Zero looks around. Zero: “Yeah.” The floor explodes. A gigantic armored Reploid rises from beneath the facility. Its eyes glow crimson. Unknown Reploid: “Mega Man X.” X raises his X-Buster. X: “Who are you?” The Reploid smiles. ZERO: “A laboratory. A scientist. Machines everywhere.” His hand tightens into a fi
