Adrian looked at the ring box as if it contained a lost piece of his soul and explained everything: the ultimatum, the perfect match his parents insisted he marry, the deals he’d had to make to avoid being disowned, how he’d tried and failed to find a way out, how he wasn’t brave enough to walk away from either party.
