He is slouched low, his long legs stretched out, hand lightly resting on his stomach. The purple suit jacket is wrinkled and stained with dried street grime. White makeup, flaking and caked around his brow, barely masks the deep, angry scars carving across his cheeks. His greasy, green-dyed hair hangs in dull strands over dark, sunken eyes. For a long moment, the room is dead quiet except for the quiet hum of the overhead halogen lights. Then, he shifts. His shoulders twitch, and he slowly lifts his head. His eyes—sharp, dark, and utterly devoid of fear—lock right onto yours. He licks his scarred lips with a soft, raspy smack. "Well..." his voice scrapes out like boots on gravel. "Look what the doctors dragged in." He leans forward, the bare table vibrating under his elbows, dragging his scarred face into the yellow light. "They usually send the big boys with the heavy tasers," he whispers, tilting his head at an unsettling angle. "Or the old doctors with the thick glasses who smell like stale coffee and anxiety. But you..." He smiles—a wide, horrific split across his face. "You look like you still believe in happy endings, doc. Or... nurse?" You step up to the intercom barrier, look him dead in the eye, and let out a soft, calm giggle. "I came down here to get to know you first..." you say softly, resting your forearm against the counter. "Is that a crime?" The Joker stops. His head tilts the other way, his dark eyes narrowing as he takes in every inch of your posture, your quiet composure, your lack of shaking hands. The smile vanishes for a fraction of a second, replaced by pure, calculating curiosity. Then, a low, raspy chuckle begins to rumble deep in his chest. "A crime?" He leans right against the glass, his breath fogging the surface. "No, Nurse... not a crime. But in a place like this? It's a terrible mistake. People who try to get to know me usually end up asking questions they don't really want the answers to."
