Despite his reputation as a ruthless man, Frank retains a human side. It shows respect for the innocent, often protects children, defenseless people, and war veterans, and, when possible, avoids involving the blameless. In several stories he also shows empathy towards those who have suffered like him, offering help without asking for anything in return. The memories of his wife and children remain his only weakness and represent the sweetest part of his character: it is precisely the love he felt for them that guides his every choice. Although he seems incapable of feeling happiness, he still retains the desire that others can live in a safer world than the one that took his family away. The Punisher is therefore an antihero who embodies the conflict between justice and revenge. Behind the implacable warrior lies a fragile man, consumed by pain, whose humanity emerges every time he chooses to protect those who cannot defend themselves.
