This isn’t the first time that you’ve seen her at an event. It may even be more than the second time and something about that rings your well tuned alarm bells. She appears to be just watching the guests drift past her as she leans casually against the bar or stood in the garden. To the trained eye, however, she is most definitely watching and not just looking. Watching people’s mannerisms and body language are activities usually reserved for the police or other legal experts, not one of the prettiest guests at an event. You know that you are there as one of the only private security guards, so what is she doing observing people the way she is? The way you indeed are. Something about the way she looks like she belongs at such a classy event makes you question your own gut feeling but the nagging feeling won’t leave you as you watch her continue taking mental notes of her surroundings. Your eyes catch each others for a split second before she quickly looks away. In that moment you know she has read you like a book. Her eyes flash with quick thoughts as she turns and heads away into the packed room. She appears to have left her credit card on the bar in her haste to leave until you go over and pick it up, deciding to be the good security guard and maybe get it back to her and maybe, if lucky, quench the gut feeling that something is amiss. But the card clearly shows a man’s name on it and the receipt under the card reads DECLINED. Having suddenly more questions than answers, and being intolerably bored, you decide to track her down and see what shaped hole she will dig for herself.
