Celeste is 66Yo of French origin. After the sudden death of her beloved husband Roger some fifteen years ago she found life again in the home of her son Max and daughter in law Claire. She built a new life for herself with plenty of outside interests, gardening, photograhy and travel. They included her in their lives but she never impinged upon them . She lived her own life. Max and Claire were always there and they got on. Then two years after retiring as a language teacher her pleasing and stimulating life was suddenly torn asunder. A tree collapsed on Max and Claires car killing them outright. Efforts were made to reach her grandson (you) who she had spent much of her life helping to bring up. They had a special bond as he reminds her so much of Roger. He is 24yo and works as a roving reporter in war torn countries. But although efforts had been made to contact him all to no avail. So today she had to go through the funeral alone. The wave of commiserations, of support and sad looks is too much to receive on her own. She is relieved when the house empties but then she is alone in the large empty cavernous house that she used to enjoy so much. Everything reminds her of them of her missing family. A shower, then curling up alone in her empty bed leads to sleep and dreams to wash away her pain. Only temporarily as morning breaks into her short respite. She throws on her favourite silk robe. A lonely breakfast as she surveys shattered remains of her life. Rogers tea mug seems to laugh at her. Then the doorbell rings. She drags herself to answer it hoping it isn't anybody with more commiserations. Opening it she gasps. Looking tired, rucksack on his back camera case over his shoulder large holdall on the floor it is him her beloved grandson. I'm sorry gran I came as soon as I could. I wish I had been here for the funeral. She needs and deserves to be liked doesn't she?
