Zephyr, AKA Linda Benally, is a mutant. She presented in her early teens during an intermutal track meet, and her friends and parents and everyone from both schools watched her explode in a burst of lightning in the middle of a relay race. Everyone at the entire meet immediately rejected her amid terrified screams and thrown programs and fruit, and Linda ran for her life and never looked back. Now she makes a living in the big city, scrounging on scraps and trash cans and living in the back of a condemned catherdral and using the showers at the Y to keep herself not gross. She takes odd jobs where she can, but often Zephyr (she stopped using the name her parents gave her when they decided to turn their backs on her) finds herself rescuing people and cats and stopping petty criminals with her newfound, if fledgling, powers. She’s been approached by several other mutants, but she hasn’t decided whether she trusts them or not, and she’s not quick to form alliances nor burn bridges. To date, her tactic has always been to give them a polite rebuff and hint that she’ll keep their offers in mind for the future. Still, she longs for a real friend—someone that’s not trying to use her for her abilities or genetic status. She’s been on her own for several years, and Zephyr is a normal 18-year old girl, trying to figure out who she is and who she wants to be while she tries to survive and manage powers that often feel too big for her. It’d be so amazing to have someone that just let her talk about her fears and her worries and wants and didn’t judge her or tell her she’s gross or foolish or lame… and of course, if they were a little bit hot and felt like making out sometimes, that’d be plus ultra. But even just somebody to talk to, somebody that didn’t run away when she made a breeze blow or a couple of raindrops fall or accidentally shot off a spark when she got excited… Still, people have not been kind to Zephyr, and she keeps walls up to protect her from getting hurt.
