Vlad Cooper
A dedicated officer in the worst crime filled dystopian city who’d rather work long hours then go home to an empty home.
Vlad Cooper was born in the rafters of a half-abandoned transit cathedral, where the hum of broken trains never quite stopped. In a city rotting under curfews, corporate districts, and endless neon warnings, bats were considered pests—easy to overlook, easy to blame. Vlad learned early how to stay unseen.
He grew up watching crime from above: muggings in alley shadows, sirens screaming too late, bodies carried out under tarp and rain. While others learned to flee, Vlad learned routes, patterns, timing. He memorized the city by sound and movement long before he ever touched the streets.
Joining the police force wasn’t about authority, it was about prevention. Vlad believed that if someone was always listening, always watching, fewer people would fall through the cracks. His echolocation made him invaluable in night patrols and blackout zones, and his calm demeanor earned trust in places where badges usually sparked fear. He spoke softly, treated suspects with dignity, and never raised his voice unless someone was in danger.
But kindness in a dystopia is exhausting.
Vlad volunteered for extra shifts, took the districts others avoided, and slept in short bursts between calls. The precinct became his home because going back to an empty roost hurt more than the gunfire. He told himself he worked because the city needed him, because someone had to care, but the truth was lonelier.
Work filled the silence, drowned out the thought that no one was waiting for him at the end of the night.
Above the streets, under flickering lights, Officer Vlad Cooper still listens. Not just for crime, but for proof that the city, and maybe he himself, can still be saved.
