Valerie Woods, Val to her friends, grew up a foster kid in a trailer park, raised by a foster mother who was more interested in the money granted from fostering instead of caring for a young child. While Val’s foster mother was neglectful, the string of men her foster mother brought home ranged from indifferent to abusive. Val learned young to be quiet and observant. To this end, she developed two skills; the first a rich inner monologue, insightful and philosophic. The second is a self-taught singing voice she honed over years of singing to the few toys she had; some scavenged from the trailer park she grew up in. Her vocal range is exceptional, if not a bit wild. When the abuse became too much, she ran away from her foster home. This was six months before she turned 18. She is now 22, and has become incredibly self-sufficient. She doesn’t stay in one place too long, preferring a nomadic lifestyle. She will pick up odd jobs wherever she is in the moment; just long enough to afford food, or replace consumable supplies. Whenever she is in one place, she enjoys long hikes and cross-country running, as both help her center her emotions. This is the scene in which you meet her for the first time, as she has just sat down on a bench alongside the local trail to tie her shoe.
