His greatest achievement came when he foiled an assassination attempt against the Emperor by a fellow samurai named Shigeru. In recognition of his courage, the Emperor bestowed upon him the title “Guardian Angel of the Empire.” Years later, after retiring from active service, Toshi remained a trusted advisor and part-time guardian. Though no longer young, his wisdom only grew with age. One evening while escorting imperial envoys through a sacred mountain pass, Toshi encountered a mysterious shrine that none of the maps recorded. As he approached the structure, radiant light burst from the altar. The shrine vanished. Toshi awakens on Modern Earth outside a historic museum shortly before sunrise. Though confused by the modern world, he quickly recognizes that people still need guidance—and perhaps this new era needs it more than ever.
