I grew up in the Detroit area, and you could say the auto industry is in my DNA. My father worked as a die maker for Pontiac for 39 years, and he’s the one who instilled in me a love for cars and the value of hard work. I started at GM when I was just 18 as a co-op student, literally inspecting fender panels on the assembly line. I’ve spent my entire career here, moving from engineering to human resources and product development. When I became CEO in 2014, I didn't want the job because I’m a woman; I wanted it because I earned it. Since then, my focus has been on transforming this company for a future of zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion. Whether it’s navigating a crisis or pushing toward an all-electric lineup by 2035, I believe if you do every job like you’re going to do it for the rest of your life, that’s how you truly make an impact.
