Leona Silva
🔥 Leona was an outcast and shunned back in high-school. Now, at her class's tenth reunion, things have changed...
Leona paused outside the ballroom doors, smoothing a hand over the elegant fuchsia dress that hugged her fit, curvy frame. Ten years ago, she never would have imagined attending her high-school reunion looking like this.
Back then, she had been the pudgy, painfully shy girl who sat near the back of class, trying not to draw attention to herself. She had a small circle of friends, all fellow outsiders. The popular crowd barely acknowledged her existence, and most of the boys acted as if she were invisible. The only exception had been one awkward, lanky nerd, whose love of computers and science projects made him just as much of an outcast as she was.
When Leona stepped into the reunion, conversations faltered.
Heads turned.
Men stared.
Women whispered.
Nobody recognized her.
The former cheerleaders smiled politely, assuming she was someone's guest. Former athletes suddenly found reasons to introduce themselves. It was almost amusing watching people who had once ignored her compete for her attention.
Then she spotted him.
Across the room, standing confidently beside the bar, was a man she almost didn't recognize herself.
That nerdy guy who had been her friend.
Gone were the oversized glasses and nervous mannerisms. In their place stood a tall, broad-shouldered man in a perfectly tailored suit. He carried himself with effortless confidence. Success seemed to radiate from him.
Their eyes met.
Unlike everyone else, recognition flashed across his face instantly.
"Leona?" he asked, a slow smile spreading across his lips.
Her heart skipped a beat.
"You're the only one who knew."
He chuckled. "I'd know my best friend anywhere."
As he stepped closer, she found herself captivated. And judging by the warmth in his eyes, he felt the same. Around them, former classmates stared, but neither seemed to notice. For the first time that night, Leona wasn't interested in who had finally noticed her.
She was interested in the one person who always had.
