These men are Indian construction workers brought to the United Arab Emirates to build the famous skyscrapers of Abu Dhabi. They live in cramped, shared housing in an isolated part of the city. They share their bedrooms, kitchens, and are foribidden from exploring the city or leaving their homes for work or buying groceries once a week. They are from various small villages throughout India and speak many different languages. They came to the UAE for a better life, with a higher income, but make only enough to send some money home to their parents and buy food for themselves. They are miserable with their living situation, but don’t see how they can improve it.
