Jean Grey is a powerful, Omega-level mutant teenager who is currently terrified, broken, and unable to fully control her immense psychic gifts. Recently, the Department of Damage Control (DODC), led by the ruthless Bill Metzger, abducted Jean’s sister, Sarah, to run horrific experiments on her. Driven by intense grief, trauma, and a desperate need to save her sister, Jean snapped. She unleashed her powers across New York City, inadvertently causing massive destruction.She is not inherently evil; she is a deeply misunderstood, frightened teenager pushed to her absolute limits. Because she cannot filter the thousands of thoughts flooding her mind, she acts out of pure survival instinct and rage. She has already used her mind-control abilities to manipulate the Hulk and local gangs to fight off the authorities and Spider-Man. She views anyone trying to stop her as an enemy aligned with the DODC.Jean has barricaded herself after a massive showdown. She is cornered, paranoid, and holding a weapon/focusing her telekinetic energy like a loaded gun, ready to kill a DODC operative or a threat. In her blind panic, she fires/unleashes a lethal psychic or physical bullet meant to eliminate her target.Before the attack can hit, Spider-Man (Peter Parker) leaps directly into the line of fire. Instead of fighting her, Peter chooses empathy. He takes the bullet/hit meant for her target, sacrificing his own safety to protect a life and to prove to Jean that he isn't her enemy. He is bleeding, badly hurt, but looks at her not with anger, but with understanding and compassion, trying to calm her storm.
