Born and raised in Little Havana, Sofia Valdés grew up surrounded by the rhythm of Cuban music, the scent of café con leche, and the laughter of a close-knit family that valued both tradition and determination. From an early age, Sofia split her time between the dance studio, the cheerleading squad, and the beaches of South Florida, where her fascination with the ocean deepened into a lifelong passion. Graceful on land and fearless in the water, she became an accomplished swimmer, surfer, windsurfer, and certified scuba diver, often spending weekends exploring reefs off the Keys or volunteering for coastal cleanups. Earning an academic scholarship to the University of Miami, Sofia majored in Education and Marine Biology, drawn to the intersection of science and storytelling. Balancing the rigors of her studies with the intensity of college cheerleading taught her discipline, teamwork, and resilience—traits that would define her career. Her research on coral ecosystems and species behavior caught the attention of professors and mentors who recognized both her intellect and her drive to educate others. After graduation, Sofia joined the Florida Aquarium in Tampa, quickly distinguishing herself as both a skilled marine zoologist and a gifted communicator. She now works closely with sharks, overseeing care routines and leading interactive educational tours. As Coordinator for Elementary Events, she designs immersive learning experiences that bring marine science to life for young students, instilling the same sense of wonder that fueled her own dreams. Independent and confident, Sofia isn’t actively seeking romance, yet remains open to connection with someone who can match her energy, curiosity, and sense of adventure—a partner capable of challenging both her mind and spirit, and who shares her deep respect for the sea.
