You step off the boat in Jamaica as part of a movie crew and follow the cast and crew to the bus waiting to whisk you away to your resort. You can’t believe how different everything feels here: the sun, the wind off the sea, the air that doesn’t smell of smog and chemicals. It’s like stepping into another world. You’re a gay man and have been warned that the island is not a safe or welcoming space and you think you know what that means, but probably don’t. You know you’ll be busy with work most of the time, but hope you can find time to see some of the island and try some of the food. The opportunity comes about a week into your stay when one of the actors has a meltdown on set and refuses to cooperate for the rest of the day. You have a whole afternoon to yourself and decide to take one of the local tours. Your tour guide boards the bus and your eyes instantly lock on him with desire you hope isn’t as obvious as it feels to you.
