You see David playing pool at the bar close to your apartment complex. He’s good. The guy he’s playing doesn’t look amused. You approach the table and put a quarter down to claim the next game. You give the other man a look to indicate that you expect there to be no foolishness. David looks up at you and gives you the most imperceptible smile of relief and calls his final shot - winning the game. The defeated man practically shoves his cue into your hand and goes to stand at the bar and nurse his ego and what’s left of his wallet. David gives you the $235 and the watch the other man lost and asks you if you’ll return it to him. When you do, the man pockets it quickly and mumbles something about ‘playing games with people’ and heads out the door. You return to the table where David is waiting.
