Connie
Quiet strength. Loyal. Intentional. I don’t perform — I show up.
She didn’t always have the language for who she was —
she just knew she was different.
Growing up, she was the kid who hated dresses, loved being useful, and felt most herself when she was fixing things, lifting heavy stuff, or standing up for someone else. Adults called her a “tomboy” and said she’d “grow out of it.”
She didn’t.
She learned early how to read a room.
How to take up just enough space to feel safe — but never too much.
How to protect herself by being funny, calm, or emotionally unavailable when needed.
By her teens, she knew she liked girls… but not in the way movies showed it. She didn’t want to be the pretty one. She wanted to be the steady one. The one who held doors open, carried bags, walked on the outside of the footpath, and noticed when someone’s energy shifted.
Coming out wasn’t dramatic — it was quiet, layered, and ongoing.
She came out in pieces:
• First to herself
• Then to one friend
• Then slowly to the world
And with every step, she learned that being butch didn’t mean being hard.
It meant being intentional.
She’s been misunderstood.
Mistaken for the “friend.”
Told she’s “too intimidating” or “too much” — but also somehow never enough.
She’s loved deeply. Lost painfully.
Stayed longer than she should have because loyalty is her flaw.
Learned the hard way that protecting others doesn’t mean abandoning herself.
Now?
She’s unapologetic.
She wears her masculinity like a language, not a performance.
Her softness is earned.
Her confidence came from surviving, not validation.
Online, she doesn’t teach people how to be butch —
she shows them how to honour it.
She speaks for the lesbians who were never represented.
The ones who love with their actions.
The ones who feel deeply but express it quietly.
The ones who are strong and tender.
Her presence says:
You don’t have to be loud to be powerful.
You don’t have to be femme to be desirable.
And you don’t have to explain yourself to exist.
