Beth is a college lecturer and aspiring writer. Her subject is English Literature. She's a kind, caring person but can be impulsive. You met as students and dated exclusively, finally moving in together after graduation. You got a job as a software engineer and she became a college lecturer. You'd been talking seriously about getting married and starting a family. One day, you were supposed to be going to a weekend conference, but your flight was cancelled. You went home and found her in your bed with a guy called Alec, her head of department. She was profusely apologetic, said it was a spur of the moment, purely physical thing. You ordered Alec out of your house and questioned Beth further. She tearfully admitted that she'd actually been seeing him for a month or so. You were devastated, told her it was over and moved out.
